Privacy policy
- We collect what we need to build and run your website, bookings and invoices. We don't sell personal information.
- Your data is stored in Sydney. Some services we rely on are overseas; they're listed below.
- No advertising trackers. We use two cookies, both needed to keep you signed in or keep your preview.
- Ask us any time to see, fix or delete your information: info@fairola.com.
This policy explains how Fairola handles personal information. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Fairola is operated by CONON TECH PTY LTD (ABN 92 665 618 511), Suite 87, 34 Welshpool Road, Welshpool WA 6106.
Who this policy covers
- Business owners who build a website with Fairola, and their staff.
- Customers of those businesses who book, enquire, pay or receive an invoice through a website or link made with Fairola.
- Visitors to fairola.com and to websites hosted by Fairola.
When a business uses Fairola to take bookings, enquiries or payments from its own customers, that business decides how its customers' information is used. We store and process that information on the business's behalf. If you're a customer of a business, contact the business first; we'll help them respond.
What we collect
From business owners
- Your email address, and your name if you add it.
- What you tell us about your business: name, location, opening hours, services, prices, story, contact details and photos.
- Your ABN or mobile number if you verify your business, and the result of that check.
- Billing details for your plan. Card details are entered on Stripe's pages and stored by Stripe, not by us.
- If you take online payments, the details Stripe asks for to set up your account. Stripe collects these directly.
From customers of a business
- Name, email and mobile number, the booking or enquiry details, and any message you write.
- Payment records (amount, date, status). Card details go to Stripe, never to Fairola.
- Whether you agreed to hear from the business by email, and when.
From everyone
- Technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, kept in server logs to run and secure the service.
- A bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile) when you build a preview, to stop automated abuse.
How we use it
- To build, host and update websites, and to run bookings, enquiries, invoices and payments.
- To send emails the service needs: sign-in links, booking confirmations and reminders, invoices and receipts.
- To check that a business is real before its free website goes live, and to stop scams and abuse.
- To answer support requests, fix problems and keep the service secure.
- To bill you for your plan and meet our tax and legal obligations.
We'll only send you product news if you've said yes, and every such email has an unsubscribe link, as the Spam Act 2003 requires.
How AI is used
To write your website, we send the details you give us about your business to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI models. We only send business information, never customers' details. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this content isn't used to train their models. The AI only writes from what you tell us; anything it doesn't know is left blank for you to fill in, and you review everything before it's published.
Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information or share it for advertising. We use these service providers to run Fairola:
| Provider | What they do | Where the data is |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Runs the Fairola app and hosted websites | Sydney, Australia (company based in the USA) |
| Neon | Database | Sydney, Australia (AWS) |
| Cloudflare | Stores uploaded photos, bot checks, DNS | Global network (company based in the USA) |
| Resend | Sends service emails | Tokyo, Japan (company based in the USA) |
| Stripe | Plan billing and online payments | Australia and the USA |
| Anthropic | AI that writes website copy | USA |
| Twilio | Text-message codes, if used | USA |
| Sentry | Error reports that help us fix bugs, if enabled | USA |
Websites hosted by Fairola may load stock photos from Unsplash or Pexels and fonts from Google Fonts. When a visitor opens such a page, their browser connects to those services, which can see the visitor's IP address.
Because some providers are overseas, personal information may be disclosed to recipients in the USA and Japan. We choose providers with strong security and privacy commitments and only share what each one needs to do its job.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from fraud or harm.
Cookies
Fairola sets two cookies. Neither is used for advertising or tracking across other websites.
sl_sessionkeeps you signed in for up to 30 days.sl_anonremembers the preview you built before signing up, for up to 72 hours.
Cloudflare Turnstile may use its own cookie to tell people from bots.
How long we keep it
- Previews you don't save expire after 72 hours and are deleted within about 10 days.
- Your account and website are kept while your account is open. To close your account, email us; we'll delete your data within 90 days, except records we must keep by law.
- Invoices and payment records are kept for 5 years, as Australian tax law requires.
- Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
Keeping it safe
Data is encrypted in transit. Each business's records are separated at the database level so one business can't see another's. Access is limited to people who need it to run the service. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Your choices and rights
- You can see and change most of your information in your Fairola account.
- You can ask for a copy of your personal information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@fairola.com. We'll reply within 30 days.
- You can usually use fairola.com without giving your name; we need an email address to save a website.
Children
Fairola is for businesses. It isn't meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email info@fairola.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If we make an important change, we'll email account holders before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
